Shubman Gill century powers India to 512 run lead vs Ban

Shubman Gill century planning

Stylish right hander opener Shubman Gill took to task Bangladesh’s Mehdi Hasan and deposited him to the boundary line with a majestic switch hit to bring up his much awaited 1st Test century. A powerhouse of talent with a deadly mixture of caution and aggression had already justified the faith that the selectors and the skipper had shown in him, reached his personal milestone today by rendering the Bangladeshi bowlers clueless with this timing and elegance. Ably supported by fellow opener K L Rahul initially and then by Cheteshwar Pujara, this maverick right hander made up for the missed opportunity in the first innings where he got out in a rather weird manner. The innings was laced with 10 fours and 2 sixes with a healthy strike rate of more than 72 as per test match standards. The innings was by far one of his best since his score of 91 vs Australia in Brisbane which helped Team India win their first ever test series in Australia.

Impact of the innings

Gill was unlucky to have lost out on his opportunity for a big score in the 1st innings after he did all the hardwork initially to settle down, but grabbed the chance with both hands in the 2nd innings to reach a well-crafted maiden ton as he was at his elegant best. Although, he has already made a name for himself as an opener in Tests this century will go a long way to ensure stability to his selection in the team in all formats. Also, considering the fact that the pitch is nowhere near to be termed as a belter of a track, with the odd ball keeping low, Gill approached the innings with caution initially as he looked to settle down first and then start playing his shots. The Shubman Gill century has landed Team India to an almost unassailable lead against Bangladesh and winning the test is just a matter of time.
