Kyrie Irving: Looking for better options

As the contract extension with his current team has not worked out as yet in his favor, the current news is the Brooklyn Nets All-Star guard is looking out for better options with other franchises as the trade window is coming to a close by 9th February 2023. Irving’s agent as a stepmom has confirmed to the media that his contract with Brooklyn Nets is set to expire after the current NBA season and hence the star would be eligible for a new contract which, as per their expectations might be valued somewhere between $150-$200 million. She has been quoted to the media saying, “I have reached out to the Nets regarding this,” Shetellia Irving told Bleacher Report. “We have had no significant conversations to date. The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets’ court to communicate now if their desire is the same.”

Upcoming challenges

Brooklyn Nets hasn’t been very keen on renewing Irving’s contract. Possible reasons for the apathy on the part of the club could be due to the fact that the club isn’t really considering him to be a reliable and dependable option anymore. Irving has missed out on a few crucial games and the reasons for the same haven’t really been for professionally acceptable reasons. Hence, even though the Nets have renewed the contract for his teammate Kevin Durant, they have still not zeroed in on Irving’s contract and are quite hesitant to enter into a long-term contract with him.

However, teams like LA Lakers and Phoenix Suns have expressed their eagerness to rope in Irving apart from the Dallas Mavericks, as per sources.
