Fans were eagerly waiting for the new movie of URI: The Surgical Strike’s star Vicky Kaushal. The wait is over now as his new movie named ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ has been released today on an OTT platform. Directed & written by Shashank Khaitan, the movie is produced under the banner of Dharma Production by Karan Johar, Hiroo Johar, Shashank Khaitan & Apoorva Mehta.
Talking about the reviews, it appears that the movie harkens back to the period of cheesy entertainers when the David Dhawan-Govinda pairing was marked by racy romance and obscene humour. Except that the overtly polygamous mood of its advertisements, invoking Saajan Chale Sasural and Gharwali Baharwali, is really a cover for a black comedy with more plot twists than sheer time pass.

GovindaNaamMera: The Story
Vicky Kaushal as GovindaWaghmare is married to Bhumi Pednekar as Gauri in the film, who rules over him and has made his life a living hell. His lover Suku (Kiara Advani), has aspirations of working with Govinda as a choreographer. In the midst of all of this, his fate decides to flip the world on its head and sets in motion a comedy of errors in which everything goes wrong until a grand plan is formed.
The Script Analysis
People are experimenting with cinematic scripts these days, and audiences, especially in India, are finally accepting new content. But time and again, a director revives his predecessors’ aesthetic and almost wins. You either succeed or fail in adapting a decade-old style. Govinda Naam Mera is unexpectedly sophisticated and draws from the past while acknowledging it’s contemporary.
Govinda Naam Mera, written by Shashank Khaitan, doesn’t take itself seriously until the last 10 minutes when it reveals all its cards. However, the remaining two hours should not be boring. Khaitan builds it better. He has created a spectacular, unreal universe with Vicky Kaushal.
