Qala movie review, released on December, 2nd on OTT (Netflix)

Qala movie review, as per critics, is a musical drama deals with the turmoil inside the mind of a playback-singer woman and her relationship with her mother as she goes through the ups and downs of her life as the daughter rises through the ranks in her career. The movie has been shot partly in Himachal Pradesh and in Kolkata which captures the snow-capped mountains and the nostalgic bye-lanes adding to the movie’s flavor. The movie is directed by the famed “Bulbbul” director, Anvita Dutta with Triptii Dimri, Babil Khan, Amit Sial, Varun Grover and Swastika Mukherjee in the lead roles.

Storyline

Qala movie review, going by the storyline, is about a young girl who inherits a rich legacy of music by virtue of her birth in a family of musicians, is expected to carry forward the same by her father. However, her mother doesn’t approve of her talents no matter how much devoted she is to her cause. The mother-daughter relationship nosedive when the mother takes another singer under her wings at a time when Qala is mentally devastated by the disapprovals from her mother. Qala’s ambition makes her take desperate measures in her career as she grows more and more distant with her mom as a result of her actions. Will ambitions rule over emotions and relations, that’s what makes up this gripping tale of emotion and ambition.

A musical journey through the difficult terrains of loneliness and ambition can be a perfect backdrop for a film. Add a couple of soul-stirring performances from the lead actors and music that touches the innermost chords of the heart, that’s what the movie is. The locales of the snow-capped mountains and the nostalgic by-lanes of a city adds makes it no just a great movie, but a mesmerizing one. Tripti and Swastika have been fascinating to watch and so is the soul-stirring lyrics of the best-in-business. Overall, for movie buffs, its salvation at its emotional best.
