Gufi Paintal of Mahabharata’s Shakuni Mama passed away on Monday at the hospital due to an age-related illness. A cardiac arrest led to the demise of the famed actor, who rose to fame with the epic TV series “Mahabharata”. His portrayal of the character of Shakuni Mama earned him the utmost fame and popularity. However, he had also been a part of quite a few Bollywood movies in short but significant roles.

Gufi Paintal leaves for his heavenly abode

The passing away of this infamous actor was first brought to light by his nephew Hiten Paintal, who confirmed that the actor passed away in a hospital in Andheri around 9 am on Monday morning. “Unfortunately, he is no more. He passed away at the hospital at around 9 am. His heart gave up. He passed away peacefully in his sleep,” Hiten told PTI.

The actor was aged 79 years and is said to have passed away peacefully while sleeping. His nephew also confirmed the news that the actor had high pressure and heart ailments and had been unwell for quite a while. However, a drastic health problem necessitated his admission to a city hospital almost a week ago in suburban Andheri.

The acting credits of Gufi Paintal were not only restricted to the TV series “ Mahabharata” but also extended to movies like Suhag, and Dillagi much before the TV series started. He had also been a part of the infamous TV series CID and Hello Inspector and RafooChakkar, Des Pardes, Dillagi, Maidan-E-Jung, and Daava. However, his portrayal of Shakuni Mama made him a star overnight as he became a household name. His last appearance on TV was for the soap “Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki”.

The actor is survived by his son, daughter-in-law and a grandchild and his last rites are to be held today around 4 pm in the evening at an Andheri crematorium.
